David Singer,

David Singer works for IBM's Internet Technology team as Program Director and Senior Technical Staff Member for Web Technology.  His main interest is in the use of Internet technology, particularly the Web, as a way of promoting community and communication, especially within enterprises such as IBM.

David was an original member of the Advisory Board of the World-Wide Web Consortium.  He is co-chair of the Global Society track of the 2002 International World-Wide Web Conference (WWW2002) and was co-chair of the Web and Society track for the Tenth International World-Wide Web Conference (WWW10).  He is a member of the Advisory Board for the 2002 conference on Computers, Freedom, and Privacy and was on the program committee of the 2000 conference.  David is also one of the authors of the PICS (Platform for Internet Content Selection) Recommendation.

Before the Web took over his life, David was the author of the OS/2 Gopher client, and ran IBM's first Internet Gopher and Web sites. David was also a member of the winning team at the first Internet Bowl (at Fall Internet World 1995).

David received his batchelor's and master's degrees at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and was very happy to escape the ice and snow by joining IBM in Boca Raton, Florida in 1976. He was even happier to escape the heat and humidity by moving to San Jose in 1984.
